Who should attend?

The IEMA Certificate course is designed for professionals who are working in organisations at an operational level and pursuing a career path in environment and sustainability. You will be working within environmental management or sustainability and require detailed knowledge of environmental and sustainability principles, management tools and other skills to effectively deliver positive change. 

Pre-requisites

Learners attending this course are expected to have a foundation level of environmental and/or sustainability knowledge. PIEMA Course content

The IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management covers:

Module 1: Fundamentals of sustainability, business and governance

  • Implications of global trends for the environment, society, the economy and for organisations and the role of an environment/sustainability professional in overcoming these challenges
  • Sustainable business/governance models and principles

Module 2: Environmental principles, policy and legislation

  • Environmental principles
  • Major policy and legislation

Module 3: Environmental management/assessment tools and skills

  • Major tools, techniques, systems and practices to develop sustainable products and services and improve sustainability performance
  • The role of innovation in developing sustainable products, services and solutions
  • Data collection, critical analysis and information reporting to inform decision making
  • Problem identification and opportunity assessment for delivery of innovative and sustainable products and services
  • Effective communications
  • Stakeholder identification and engagement
  • Tools, techniques, systems and practices to identify opportunities and risks
  • Project and programme delivery to achieve performance improvements
  • Implementing change and transformation

Duration

The IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management course takes around 120 hours to complete including taught hours and private study and background reading. It is possible for learners to complete the qualification in 15 days.

Assessment

There are three knowledge-based assignments and one assessment of competence that should give examples of how the knowledge learnt throughout the course have been applied practically within the workplace. 

Outcome / Next Steps

Delegates will achieve the IEMA Certificate in Environmental Management upon completion and a certificate to recognise their achievement.
