Working Safely With Manual Handling

Manual Handling is one of the most common causes of injury at work. Musculoskeletal disorders account for nearly 40% of all work-related ill health. This one-day training course is designed to help anyone working with Manual Handling activities to manage the injury risk by complying with the law and by working safely.

Course content

  • The importance of Manual Handling - The scale of the problem - the moral, legal and financial reasons for working safely when manual handling.
  • What is Manual Handling – A definition of Manual Handling tasks and the need for an ‘ergonomic approach’ to Manual Handling.
  • Human Physiology and ergonomic injury - The anatomy of the human body and the nature of musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Legal duties regarding Manual Handling - The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 and associated guidance.
  • Manual Handling Training – How to provide useful practical training including a practical session on good lifting technique.
  • Manual Handling Risk Assessment – Techniques for carrying out a MHO risk assessment and applying control measures to reduce injury risk.

Pre-requisites

There are no pre-requisites for joining this course which is designed to be appropriate for anyone involved with manual handling at work.

Assessment

No assessment but delegates receive a certificate of attendance.
