In October 2024, after nearly a decade of campaigning by Make UK, the Government published its long-awaited ‘Invest 2035’ industrial strategy green paper.
It outlines their vision for a long-term, modern industrial strategy, set to be delivered over the next 10 years - and placed on a statutory footing via the Industrial Strategy Advisory Council - in order to provide the certainty and stability that businesses need to invest and help grow the economy.
Encouragingly, the Government looks set to place our sector at the strategy's heart, having named advanced manufacturing as one of eight key growth sectors which the plan will focus on.
Ahead of the publication of the final industrial strategy in spring 2025, and after listening to members' feedback and analysing the initial proposals, Make UK has submitted its comprehensive response to the plans outlined in the green paper.
We have highlighted the areas of agreement, but most importantly the key issues where there is room for improvement, including around skills, the definition of 'advanced manufacturing', and how we go about measuring the strategy's success. You can download our full response below.
