  • Get work preparation training, heping put you in a better position when applying for an apprenticeship or other employment.
  • Boost your ‘work ready’ skills. Employers have helped to design the programme to help give you the confidence and skills to take your first to securing employment

Why take on a trainee?

Traineeships will help get young people into work and benefit your business in the following ways:

  • Get ahead of the competition by bringing enthusiastic young people into your business before they get on to the job ladder.
  • Receive a government incentive for every trainee you take on.
  • Shape the skills and experience of young people from your local community, helping your business to develop a loyal and talented workforce and generating good PR.
  • Give established members of staff the chance to develop their skills in mentoring and coaching young people.

A Traineeship is a skills development programme including a work placement, designed for 16 – 24 year olds with little or no work experience. Lasting 6 weeks to 1 year, traineeships are an opportunity for young people to get real work experience and job skills, giving their career prospects a real boost.

Traineeships were designed after research showed that young people lack the knowledge and experience employers expect.
