Why we are here
The technology to decarbonise industry through electrification is there but UK policy is not. This is not just a question of limited time rebalancing of policy costs on energy prices, it is about ensuring long-term sustainability of investment. In this, Britain lags behind our competitors.
What our country stands to gain
- Secure up to 2mn jobs worth £100bn: to our local towns and cities, ensuring that UK decarbonisation does not mean UK de-industrialization
- Enable industry through private investment to train tens of thousands of engineers, many of whom will go out to work in the wider economy, helping to upgrade our national grid and enabling the whole nation decarbonise
- Grow UK manufacturing and the number of engineering jobs that design, create and manufacture the world-leading products that UK exports
- Unlock significant domestic and international investment in UK supply chains and career training

How Britain gets there
Our mission - ensuing industry is at the table with the energy sector, Government, and wider stakeholders driving industrial transformation
1. Address electricity prices: Make electricity prices competitive with other energy sources and global competitors, unlocking significant investment in UK supply chains and careers.
2. Ability to access the energy grid: Drive greater reforms to the energy system, supporting industry’s ability to access connections, unlock flexible demand, and enable onsite storage and generation.
3. Simplify government schemes: Simplify the financial, skills and regulatory landscape in the UK to drive industrial electrification.
Membership Information
How businesses can get involved
Our membership actively engages with key issues that impact the wider UK industrial base. By joining Electrify Industry, businesses can contribute their expertise, shape policy discussions, and drive the transition to electrification.
How Electrify Industry works
Our members engage on different levels and to different depths, depending on their capacity and expertise on any of the important subject areas we cover.
Through our working groups, members are able to provide their experiences and expert-led views of particular issues. Our steering group takes these insights and works with our secretariat to develop key points into our core campaigns. This ensures that expert industry voices and experiences are heard in our campaigning and policy work and tangible recommendations that will have real world impacts are championed.
This year is crucial in the re-design of our energy system but, as many have seen, the vision for industrial and commercial decarbonisation has been lacking. This re-design is happening at a time when the Prime Minister’s stated objective is that the whole UK economy decarbonise by 81% by 2035 – this sets a significant target for the business community to meet.
As 80% of industrial and commercial businesses are best placed to chose electrification as their preferred decarbonisation technology, it is important that the significant barriers that currently exist are urgently addressed. There is much to do.
We will support the voice of industry to deliver a level playing field in energy costs to the sector. We will provide clear evidence of the significant growth potential if industrial electrification is enabled and investment across the economy unlocked. We will champion the policies that reflect the significant economic opportunities that we can bring to delivering the Government’s Missions of Growth and Clean Power.
